Nigel Sylvester recalls the start of his BMX career in heartfelt Air Jordan spot

That’s the story of pro-BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester, whose newest campaign with Air Jordan for his sneaker Air Jordan 4 RM, looks back at his childhood and shows how he fell in love with BMX athletics in his hometown of Queens, New York. Filmed in his actual grandmother’s driveway in Queens, “Grandma’s Driveway," directed by Harrison Boyce, features Sylvester’s grandmother, portrayed by acclaimed “Family Matters” actress Jo Marie Payton, recollecting Sylvester’s childhood. In a spot, she sits in the driveway and talks about how Sylvester would ride his bike and do stunts from sunup till sundown. As she speaks, film images of Sylvester’s childhood BMX stunts appear. Sylvester describes the 4 RM as his most personal sneaker to date. He played a role in the design and creative development of the sneaker, which included sentimental touches such as a leather shade matching the emerald green fence around his grandmother’s driveway. “This AJ4 RM release, ‘Grandma’s Driveway’ with Jordan Brand, is a culmination of all the hard work, dedication and sacrifice throughout my journey thus far,” said Sylvester in a statement. “It’s more than just a sneaker; it’s a vision and a dream brought to life; what started on that day in Queens, in my grandma’s driveway, has now reached people around the world. The job is far from done, but this is a gift to my fans who have inspired and supported me along the way for so many years.” The campaign pays homage to Sylvester's humble beginnings and close relationship with his grandmother, who encouraged his journey to become a professional rider. The Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM “Grandma's Driveway” is available on the Nike website, the SNKRS app and select stockists across the globe for $150. The box’s texture replicates the driveway itself and the packaging includes tissue paper with an image of four-year-old Nigel on his tricycle. Also included in each package is a sticker pack, recalling how Nigel customized his childhood bikes.
